The design of the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary starts from that of the already existing 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, but starting from a minimum focal length of 28mm, this allows for a smaller and lighter lens while maintaining high-class optical performance. It is the smallest and lightest lens in its class.

Faithful to the philosophy of the Contemporary line, the 28-70 mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is designed to offer the right balance between performance and handling. As such, this large aperture standard zoom lens offers exceptional image quality that rivals that of the Art line lenses and with a lower weight. This makes it the ideal lens for use on any occasion. Based on the most advanced technology, the 28 70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary has an optical design that includes three aspherical elements, two FLD and two SLD. Despite using fewer elements as a whole than the 24 70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, the optical design offers complete correction of axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma aberration, which cannot be corrected by the camera. This allows the photographer to create uniformly sharp images from the center to the edges of the frame. Together with its Anti-Ghosting scheme, the super multilayer coating and the Nano-Porous coating reduce flare to a minimum and allow you to create well-contrasted images even in backlit situations. It also has a water repellent and oil repellent coating on the front face of the first lens.
