 URSA Broadcast G2 Blackmagic camera

The most versatile broadcast camera in the world!

The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is an ultra-powerful camera designed for traditional and online broadcasting. Its design contains 3 cameras in one for use as a 4K production camera, 4K studio camera or 6K digital cinema camera! It's the ideal solution for broadcasters because it uses the lenses and batteries they already have. It offers recording to standard SD card, UHS-II card, CFast 2.0 card or external USB drive in standard formats such as H.265, ProRes and Blackmagic RAW. It is compatible with all video software and broadcast media management systems. You can even change its lens mount. No other broadcast camera is this versatile!

3 cameras in 1

-Broadcast production camera
The URSA Broadcast G2 is the ideal solution for broadcasters, as its housing offers ENG camera controls that you can locate by touch. It also includes a low-light sensor for stunning images in natural light, which is perfect for news and broadcast.

-Live studio camera
The URSA Broadcast features YRGB color correction and full remote camera control. You can use ENG B4 lenses and large studio lenses, but also change the lens mount to use the lens of your choice. Plus, the optional Focus and Zoom Demand allow you to control the lens from the tripod handles.

-Digital Cinema Camera
The URSA Broadcast G2 includes an advanced 6K digital sensor and you can change its lens mount. Use a PL mount for digital cinema lenses or an EF mount for photo lenses. With its wide dynamic range, low-light performance, and Blackmagic RAW, you have a film-quality digital camera.

Digital Cinema Quality for Broadcast

The URSA Broadcast G2 is not only a great Ultra HD camera, but also an incredible HD camera. The high-resolution sensor and 5th generation colorimetry create stunning images with high dynamic range and accurate color. But when you're working in HD, the camera resizes the image sensor to 1080 HD video standards. This means you can quickly get your images on the air in any HD or Ultra HD standard, anywhere in the world! In HD, the high-resolution sensor offers ultra-precise processing for superior anti-aliasing and sharp images. The URSA Broadcast G2 is a forward-looking camera, perfect for HD and Ultra HD production!

Outstanding low-light performance

Because the new URSA Broadcast offers excellent low-light performance, you can shoot in ambient light or in moonlight! The ISO of advanced cameras measures the sensitivity of the sensor to light. The gain of the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 ranges from -12dB (ISO 100) to +36dB (ISO 25,600). It is therefore optimized to reduce grain and noise in images while maintaining the dynamic range of the sensor. The native ISO of 400 is ideal for studio lighting. The ISO of 3200 is perfect for low light environments. Gain can be adjusted from a knob on the camera, the LCD menu, or remotely using the SDI remote camera control protocol.

Compatible with B4 broadcast lenses

The URSA Broadcast G2 includes a B4 broadcast lens mount that incorporates lenses designed for the camera's sensor. This mount allows the use of modern Ultra HD lenses or inexpensive HD lenses. Since older HD lenses offer resolutions well beyond HD, you get quality for less! B4 lenses are parfocal, so the image stays in focus while zooming. This means you don't have to constantly focus and can work faster. You also have electronic lens control to adjust focus, iris and zoom with the camera controls or remotely. To use other lenses, change the mount to PL or EF.

Built-in Optical Gray Filters

The URSA Broadcast G2 incorporates high-quality neutral gray (ND) filters to reduce the amount of light entering the camera. The 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64 f-stop filters, specially designed for the image sensor, and the colorimetry of the URSA Broadcast G2 give you additional flexibility. This allows you to combine multiple apertures and shutter angles in a variety of situations. The infrared filters are designed to filter both optical and infrared wavelengths, eliminating infrared contamination. Filter status can be displayed as fraction, coefficient or f-stop reduction on the LCD.

Standard media and file formats

The URSA Broadcast is compatible with all file formats used by broadcast systems and editing software. You can record QuickTime files in ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 422. The new URSA Broadcast G2 can even record in H.265 for very small files with 60:1 to 285:1 compression in 10-bit broadcast quality. You can also record in Blackmagic RAW, a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of the camera's sensor data. So you can use formats designed for all types of workflows.

Two slots for endless recording

With two CFast 2.0 card slots and two UHS-II SD card slots, you can choose the media that suits you best. Both types of media are popular and inexpensive. With its two slots, the URSA Broadcast gives you continuous recording! In fact, when one card is full, recording continues on the second. So you can swap the card without interrupting the recording. The data rate is sufficient to record high quality H.265 and ProRes video, even when working in Ultra HD at high frame rates. This makes the URSA Broadcast G2 easy to integrate into your broadcast systems. You can even record 12-bit Blackmagic RAW cinema files.

Record directly to external USB-C drives

The URSA Broadcast G2 features a high-speed USB-C expansion port on the back of the camera that allows you to record to external drives or connect accessories. By connecting an inexpensive external USB flash drive, you can record in high-quality ProRes, H.265 or Blackmagic RAW 12-bit for later editing and color correction. So, just connect the drive to a computer for editing or color grading, without having to copy files. In addition, the USB port will power the connected drive. You can even plug in the optional Focus Demand and Zoom Demand to get full control of the lens.

Lightweight and robust magnesium housing

The URSA Broadcast B2 features a very robust and lightweight magnesium alloy housing for all-day comfort! It features external controls and switches that give you direct access to the most important camera settings. The controls are laid out in an intuitive way, so you can adjust settings without having to look at the buttons. There's also a flip-down touchscreen for monitoring, camera status and changing settings using menus. The URSA Broadcast G2 also includes standard 12G-SDI connections, XLR audio inputs, a USB-C port, and a DC 12V broadcast XLR 4-pin connection.

Built-in touchscreen LCD

The built-in flip-down screen allows you to monitor and control the camera. While the URSA Broadcast G2 has many buttons and knobs, the LCD screen also provides touch controls and camera status. It also includes essential information as well as menus for camera settings, LUTs and customizable presets. Behind the screen, you'll find additional buttons and knobs for audio levels. There are even function buttons that can be customized with functions such as zebra, false color, focus peaking, LUTs and more! The function assigned to each button can be changed in the on-screen menus.

External status screen

The LCD status screen offers excellent visibility, even in direct sunlight! It shows the recording time code, locked time code and reference time code, as well as frame rate, shutter angle, aperture, white balance, gain and iris. It also shows the remaining battery charge, card recording status, and meters. The screen backlight can be turned on when shooting in poorly lit areas, or turned off when shooting outdoors to increase contrast. So you can easily view the screen in any situation!

Program video monitoring

During live production, it's sometimes useful to be able to view the program video from the mixer. Simply press the PGM button and the viewer will switch between the camera display and the mixer's program feedback feed. In addition, the built-in speaker lets you control the mixer's audio. Program feedback is an incredible feature because sometimes on large live shows, camera operators can wait a long time before they need to use their camera. Program feedback allows them to keep an eye on the show. So even if the cameraman is far away from the mixer, he is aware of what is going on and can stay alert.Load 3D LUTs for a cinematic look

Digital cameras record in a logarithmic color space to preserve dynamic range, which is ideal for post-production. However, when viewed on a monitor, images can appear flat and washed out. 3D LUTs solve this problem by applying a "look" to your monitor to give an idea of how the final image will look after editing. LUTs can be applied temporarily for monitoring, or saved to Blackmagic RAW files for post-production. The URSA Broadcast G2 is compatible with standard 17- and 33-point 3D LUT files, but you can also work with the built-in Extended Video, Film to Video, and Film to Rec.2020 LUTs.

TV industry-standard connections

The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 incorporates industry-leading technology and connections, such as 12G-SDI to carry video and the return path. The 12G-SDI connections are multi-rate and allow recording in all HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. You also get headphone connectivity, USB-C, balanced XLR audio with phantom power, and a timecode reference input. The front of the camera includes a 12-pin Hirose connector for lens control and power. To connect a viewfinder or set monitor, the camera includes an HD-SDI monitoring output and a DC 12V XLR 4-pin broadcast power output.

Support for broadcast frame rates

Whether you're shooting a sporting event or a news story, the URSA Broadcast G2 delivers smooth, crisp slow motion. For slow motion, the URSA Broadcast supports frame rates of 60 frames per second. However, you can also record this high frame rate into a lower frame rate file for smooth slow motion shooting. You can set your preferred frame rate using the camera's on-screen menus, then switch between standard and off-speed frame rates by pressing the HFR button on the side of the camera. This way, your high frame rate will already be set when you're in the thick of things!

Professional audio connections and built-in microphones

The URSA Broadcast G2 has a built-in quality microphone and professional audio recording, so you don't need to carry extra audio equipment. You can use the built-in stereo microphone or connect external microphones. Since the XLR connections have 48V phantom power, you can connect everything from shotgun to lapel mics. You can link the audio inputs on the camera to connect lavalier mics, which often have a single mono connection, if you want to record the mic on both channels of the recorded file. The URSA Broadcast G2 includes knobs for adjusting levels and on-screen meters, even when you're shooting on the shoulder.

Studio camera control via SDI

All ATEM mixers can control cameras using a protocol built into the URSA Broadcast G2's SDI video connections. Setup is easy, as all ATEM mixers broadcast control commands from the mixer's SDI program output to the camera via the SDI program input. The mixer can perform color correction, tally and lens control, and it's all sent to the individual cameras. All you have to do is select the appropriate camera number. One person can handle color and image gain, while the camera operator focuses on framing the shots.

Work in HD or Ultra HD

Switch to PL, EF or F mount lenses

The URSA Broadcast G2 has an interchangeable lens mount that allows you to swap the supplied B4 mount with an EF, PL or F mount. This camera includes a B4 mount, and an EF mount is also included. So you can swap the mount and start with inexpensive photo lenses. These are excellent, as they are made for high resolution photography. You can also buy optional PL and F mounts. If you are shooting for digital cinema, the PL lens mount is ideal, as it is the most common mount for cinema lenses. The URSA Broadcast G2 is a camera that works with almost any modern lens.

5th Generation Colorimetry

Featuring the same 5th generation colorimetry as the URSA Mini Pro 12K, the new URSA Broadcast G2 delivers even better image quality, with accurate flesh tones and true color in every shot. It features a new 12-bit gamma curve, designed to capture more color data in the highlights and lowlights. Colorimetry also handles some of the complex image processing in Blackmagic RAW to preserve the sensor's color and dynamic range data via metadata, which you can use in post-production. This gives you natural, cinematic-looking images when color grading with DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The incredible quality of Blackmagic RAW

Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the camera's sensor data. Because popular video files incorporate a lot of video processing, you can lose some of the original sensor detail. Blackmagic RAW solves this, as it delivers exceptional, detailed images with true color. It saves camera settings in metadata to change ISO, white balance and exposure later in DaVinci Resolve. Because the files are small and fast, the responsiveness when editing is incredible. Only Blackmagic RAW offers the highest quality and fastest speed on small files.

Operated by the Blackmagic OS

Thanks to the Blackmagic OS, which is based on state-of-the-art technology, you benefit from an easy-to-use and intuitive interface. This advanced operating system allows each feature to operate independently and get the URSA Broadcast G2 up and running almost instantly. It offers the same controls and menus as other Blackmagic Design cameras, so you can switch between them easily. The interface allows you to adjust settings, add metadata, and view recording status with a few gestures. You have control over advanced camera functions, such as focus, exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, and Blackmagic RAW.

Built-in timecode generator

The URSA Broadcast G2 has a built-in timecode generator. This allows you to synchronize all cameras and perform multi-camera editing later. Simply connect an external time code generator to the BNC time code input. The camera will automatically detect the timecode and synchronize the internal generator. Each camera will then be able to start and stop recording and their shots will have the same timecode. Imagine being able to film a music festival with many cameras! Then, DaVinci Resolve's Sync Bin can be used to automatically synchronize the recordings and display them in a multi view for easier editing.

Focus Demand and Zoom Demand

The optional Zoom Demand and Focus Demand allow you to use photo lenses for live production! These incorporate USB-C connections to control the lens via the camera's electronic lens control. They each have 2 USB-C ports, allowing them to be daisy-chained and then connected to the camera via a single USB connection. Their design offers great precision for very fine lens control. You can frame and adjust the lens without removing your hands from the tripod handles. Customizable buttons can be assigned to different camera functions. Plus, parts to mount the Focus Demand and Zoom Demand on a tripod are included.

Add viewfinders, SMPTE fiber and lens mounts

Many accessories have been designed specifically for the URSA Broadcast G2. However, a shoulder pad kit, V-Lock battery holder and top handle are included. So you don't need to buy additional accessories. There is a spare EF lens mount, in case you don't have a B4 lens and want to use a photo lens first. You can add an optional Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder, or a Blackmagic URSA Studio Viewfinder for live production. There's also an optional fiber converter that powers the camera up to 2km via a single SMPTE fiber cable! For long term recording, the URSA Mini Recorder allows recording to external SSDs.

Recording to SSDs and U.2 media

The optional Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder allows you to record to 2.5-inch SSDs, as well as the latest U.2 NVMe Enterprise SSDs. SSDs, such as the latest 7mm U.2 NVMe, are very fast and capable of transferring data at 900 MB/s! This incredible speed allows you to record for longer periods of time at full 4K and 6K Blackmagic RAW 12-bit resolution in the highest quality Q0 encoding. To install it, you simply attach the Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder between the back of the URSA Broadcast G2 and the battery. Since it's controlled via USB-C, you won't have to worry about manually starting or stopping the recorder.

Available in 13 languages

All Blackmagic Design cameras are designed to be used anywhere in the world and are available in 13 languages! You can configure your camera in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. You can change the language very easily through the menu settings. When you select a language, all on-screen information and menus will be displayed in that language.

Remote control via Bluetooth

If your camera is positioned on top of a pole, or in a hard-to-reach location, you can control it via Bluetooth from up to 30 feet away. You can download the Blackmagic Camera Control app for iPad or use a third-party app, such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger on your iOS and Android devices. A free SDK for developers and sample code is available on the Developers page of the Blackmagic Design website, to create your own remote camera and digital clapperboard control solutions. Imagine developing an application that can copy the timecode and trigger the recording of each camera simultaneously. An infinite number of possibilities are available to you!

Compatible with industry-standard batteries

URSA cameras support many battery holders from manufacturers such as IDX, Blueshape and Anton Bauer. A V-Lock battery holder is installed on the camera, but you can replace it with an optional Blackmagic URSA Gold Battery Plate. Blackmagic battery holders are designed to be mounted directly on the camera. The URSA Broadcast G2 features a four-pin XLR connector that supports 12V to 18V for connecting external power sources and battery packs.
